Who we are

Liberty Life Botswana was established in 2008 and is a specialist life insurance company which focuses on providing group based and individual risk insurance products for death, disability, critical illness and other life changing events. We make a difference in people’s lives by making their financial freedom possible.

As Liberty Life Botswana, we see it as our responsibility to empower our clients; individuals, small businesses and large corporate institutions in offering the best suitable risk benefit solutions for their staff or members.

Our business model is based on creating products that offer our clients financial freedom and peace of mind during unforeseen circumstances as well as forming strong partnerships. We have experience in creating solutions that work for and benefit our existing partners. We work together with them to understand their needs, and the needs of their customers to be able to design appropriate solutions.

Liberty Life Botswana is a subsidiary of Liberty Holdings, founded in 1957 by Sir Donald Gordon with the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to grow their wealth and leave a proud legacy for their family. Liberty has grown into an organisation with assets under management of R566 billion, more than 2,5 million clients and properties that cover 1,1 million square kilometres. With a presence in 15 African countries, Liberty has grown from being a South African life insurer to a Pan-African financial services company, offering asset management, investments, insurance and health products.

Leadership Team

Ms. Joy Buno
Managing Director

Joy Buno is the Managing Director at Liberty Life Botswana. She is a chartered accountant (ACCA), holding a bachelor’s degree in Accounting (BAcc) from the University of Botswana, a post-graduate certificate in Enterprise Risk Management from Botswana Accountancy College, and a master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Derby. She is a fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) as well as a fellow member of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA).

Ms. Buno brings over 12 years of experience in financial services. She was previously Head of Finance at Liberty as well as her former employer and has over the years proven to be a visionary corporate executive who did not only excel at her primary role but was also instrumental in executing the overall business strategy.

Mr. Thobo Sennanyana
Head of Group Business

A seasoned service excellence champion with more than a decade and a half of experience in the medical aid industry (both from fund management and administration) and the FMCG industry. He is responsible for building strategic partnerships for Liberty Life Botswana, all group scheme acquisitions, and their relationship upkeeping, ensuring that our clients receive the bespoke solutions for their needs in accordance with regulatory requirements and Liberty Life Botswana’s philosophy.

Thobo is a holder of two bachelor's degrees, a BSc General from the University of Botswana and an Honours in Accounting and Finance from the University of Derby. He has received postgraduate certification in Enterprise Risk Management from Botswana Accountancy College and Management Development Programme from the University of Stellenbosch.

Ms. Whitney Kalaote-Moyoto
Head of Finance

A qualified and experienced Chartered Accountant, boasting Botswana’s first BICA graduate accolade, Ms Kalaote-Moyo brings with her a wealth of knowledge from her over a decade experience in audit, financial accounting and tax from various industries.

She is a well-rounded professional and has over the years provided leadership and management to finance departments, with a tenacity to develop finance departments to effectively support the organizations targets. Whitney is passionate about accounting & finance and its contribution to the success of the organization.

Mr Kabo Kgopo
Head: Business Development Retail

Kabo Kgopo is a results-driven professional with more than 15 years’ experience in the Financial Services Industry. A qualified & regulated professional with a progressive track record and proven experience. An Honours graduate from a top tier University, where he completed the Bachelor of Business Administration degree majoring in Finance.

A trusted & qualified member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII)(UK) and an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (CISI) (UK), holding qualifications in Investment Planning and Wealth & Investment Management respectively. He has successfully completed the Certificate of Proficiency (COP) - Long Term Insurance and the Intermediate Certificate in Business Studies (ICIBS).

Kabo brings to Liberty a wealth of experience in Investments Advisory, Wealth Management and Financial Planning. Before Liberty, Kabo was General Manager & Director of an Advisory Firm tied to a Pension Administration Business.
